Without Walls, a consortium of eight of the UK’s arts festivals, has a new two-year funding deal with Arts Council England. The organisation has appointed Rose Fenton, co-founder of the London International Festival of Theatre, as chair.
Since its launch in 2006, Without Walls has commissioned, supported and presented around 500 outdoor performances from 25 established and emerging artists, attracting an audience of nearly 1.3 million people. Commissions for 2010 have been announced: Akademi’s Sufi: Zen; Contact’s A Night on the Tiles; Fuel’s Electric Hotel, conceived and directed by David Rosenberg choreographed and co-directed by Frauke Requardt; Gravity & Levity in association with The Dream Engine, presenting Re-flex; Kuljit Bhamra presenting Chutney; Metis’ Third Ring Out; Motionhouse’s Cascade, Prodiga’s The Next Level and Wired Aerial Theatre presenting a double bill of Rosa’s Bar and a new commission in collaboration with Henri Oguike.
