WIN! Pineapple Poll with The Lady and the Fool on DVD

ica_danceIn its latest historic performance DVD, ICA Classics celebrates the choreographer John Cranko. Created for the Sadler’s Wells Theatre Ballet, Pineapple Poll is a hugely popular nautical comedy – as Richard Glasstone remembers on page 27 of the September issue. This 1959 recording stars a young Merle Park as the lovestruck Poll, with David Blair as the dashing Captain Belaye. The Lady and the Fool is a bittersweet satire, as the capricious heroine falls in love with a melancholy fool – a role originally played by the choreographer Kenneth MacMillan. This recording, also from 1959, stars Svetlana Beriosova with Ray Powell and Ronald Hynd. The music for both ballets was arranged by Charles Mackerras, who conducts on both recordings.

ICA Classics have kindly given us five copies of the John Cranko DVD as competition prizes. To win, see page 7 of the September issue of Dancing Times.
