The Mariinsky in Cardiff

Posted on April 1, 2016

The Maryinsky Ballet returns to Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff this month, dancing two mixed programmes.

On April 14 and 15, the company dance Hans van Manen’s Five Tangos, Wayne McGregor’s Infraand Jerome Robbins’ In the Night. This is the first time the Maryinsky has performed Five Tangos, set to music by Astor Piazzolla, or Infra, to music by Max Richter, in the UK.

On April 16 and 17, the Maryinsky dance a double bill of Sacre, a staging of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring by Sasha Waltz, and Alexei Ratmansky’s virtuoso Concerto DSCH. The performance will be accompanied by the Maryinsky Orchestra, conducted by Valery Gergiev. The Maryinsky Orchestra will also perform a concert of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf on April 17.
