Galina Stepanenko, acting director of the Bolshoi Ballet, has spoken to the Russian newspaper Izvestia about plans for the company.
Following the recent acid attack on Sergei Filin, artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet, Wayne McGregor’s new production of The Rite of Spring has been dropped. UPDATE: Instead, the company will dance a new version by Tatiana Baganova, director of the Provincial Dances Theatre in Yekaterinberg.
The Bolshoi Ballet has announced repertory and some casting for its London season, which runs from July 29 to August 17 at the Royal Opera House. The visit will include guest performances by former Bolshoi stars Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev (pictured), plus the first foreign performances of the company’s new Sleeping Beauty.

Assis Carreiro, the driving force behind DanceEast, has been appointed artistic director of the Royal Ballet of Flanders. She joins the Antwerp-based company at a difficult time.
