Edward Watson and Zenaida Yanowsky are among the dancers starring in Kim Brandstrup’s new Frank Bridge Variations, part of the centenary celebrations for composer Benjamin Britten.
Nominations for the 13th National Dance Awards were announced today, at a reception held at The Place. The awards are for dance performances given between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012, and are chosen by the dance section of the Critics’ Circle.
Assis Carreiro, the driving force behind DanceEast, has been appointed artistic director of the Royal Ballet of Flanders. She joins the Antwerp-based company at a difficult time. The previous director, Kathryn Bennetts, clashed with the Flemish culture minister, Joke Schauvliege, over plans to amalgamate the Antwerp opera and ballet companies under a single intendant.
