Three leading British companies have expressed concern over the standards of training in UK contemporary dance schools. Akram Khan Company, DV8 Physical Theatre and Hofesh Shechter Company say they have to look overseas because they cannot find UK-trained dancers of sufficient calibre.

Nominations for the 14th National Dance Awards were announced today by the dance section of the Critics’ Circle.
Nominations for the 13th National Dance Awards were announced today, at a reception held at The Place. The awards are for dance performances given between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012, and are chosen by the dance section of the Critics’ Circle.
The Design Museum Ball, held by London Design Festival 2012, will feature a one-off performance by Richard Alston Dance Company. Alston’s dancers, dressed in glittering, crystal-encrusted costumes created for them by fashion designer Julien Macdonald, will perform a series of specially-created dance moments in spaces around the Design Museum.
