National Dance Awards

Nominations for the 13th National Dance Awards were announced today, at a reception held at The Place. The awards are for dance performances given between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012, and are chosen by the dance section of the Critics’ Circle.

Alongside The Royal Ballet’s new season plans, The Royal Opera House has announced the rest of its dance programme, including performances by Ballet Black, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance, Arthur Pita, Will Tuckett | Dance Theatre, Danish Dance Theatre and Bern:Ballett.

Leeds dance building wins Best Arts Project award

The purpose-build headquarters of Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre has won the National Lottery Award for Best Arts Project 2011. The award comes as the two companies celebrate a year in their new home.

New Adventures Choreographer Award

22-year-old James Cousins has won the first New Adventures Choreographer Award (NACA). Nearly 100 aspiring choreographers applied for the award, created to celebrate the 50th birthday of New Adventures’ choreographer Matthew Bourne. Impressed by the standard of applications, the judges have created a runner-up prize, awarded to 19-year-old Tom Jackson Greaves.

Dance building reaches awards finals

The new Leeds home for Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre has reached the finals of the 2011 National Lottery Awards. Public voting for the awards opens on Friday, September 2.

The new home built for Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre (pictured) has reached the finals of the Best Arts Project category in the National Lottery Awards 2011. After a hugely successful public voting campaign, the Leeds building received the most votes in its category.

New music for dance

The Royal Philharmonic Society Drummond Fund has given awards to commission three new scores for dance, for performance between 2011 and 2013 by Phoenix Dance Theatre, Company Decalage and at Dance Umbrella.

Arts Council cuts

Arts Council England (ACE) has announced its funding decisions for the next four years.
