Russian culture minister Vladimir Medinsky has announced that Nikolai Tsiskaridze is to be appointed rector of the Vaganova Academy, St Petersburg’s leading ballet school. Tsiskaridze and Lopatkina for the Vaganova Academy?

Russian newspaper Izvestia reports that Nikolai Tsiskaridze, who recently left the Bolshoi Theatre after several reprimands and a court case, will become Rector of the Vaganova Academy, St Petersburg’s leading ballet school. The current rector, Vera Dorofeyeva, will be offered a new position.

Beijing International Ballet and Choreographer Competition

Beijing’s second International Ballet and Choreography competition will be held from July 5 to 13. Tonight’s sold-out opening gala features San Francisco Ballet’s Yuan Yuan Tan and Taiwanese virtuoso Fang-Yi Sheu (pictured) alongside 2011 winners Ma Xiaodong, Zhan Xinlu, Li Renxiu and Wang Yun.

Nijinsky’s daughter receives financial recognition for The Rite of Spring

Tamara Nijinsky, the 93-year-old daughter of Vaslav and Romola Nijinsky, is to receive legal recognition for her father’s celebrated ballet, The Rite of Spring, at the centenary performance in Paris this month.

Benjamin Millepied to direct Paris Opéra Ballet

Choreographer Benjamin Millepied will succeed Brigitte Lefèvre as director of the Paris Opéra Ballet, it has been announced. He will take up the position from October 15, 2014.
