Johan Kobborg has been appointed director of the National Romanian Ballet. He will take up his new post in February 2014. The announcement came after the first night of Kobborg’s production of La Sylphide for the company, which opened on December 7.

Johan Kobborg, who with Alina Cojocaru left The Royal Ballet this month, has also left the Royal Opera’s new production of Verdi’s Les Vêpres siciliennes. Principals Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg will leave The Royal Ballet at the end of the 2012–13 season. They are leaving the company to pursue other other artistic challenges.
Since 2008, ballerina Alina Cojocaru (pictured) has been raising funds for the Bucharest Hospice Appeal, holding galas for Hospices of Hope. She returns to Sadler’s Wells on Sunday, May 12, with a varied repertory and plenty of starry friends.

The Royal Ballet has announced its plans for the 2013-14 season, with two new full-length productions and four world premieres, including Christopher Wheeldon’s new ballet The Winter’s Tale. You can read artistic director Kevin O’Hare’s exclusive introduction to the season here.
On Wednesday, June 1, The Royal Ballet performance of Manon will be shown live on big screens across the country. The free performance is part of the BP Summer Big Screen season.
2011–2012 will be Monica Mason’s final season as director of The Royal Ballet. This is, she explains, “a case of ‘Director’s Choice’ – I’ve included a lot of things that have been particularly special to me, and also one or two that might not appear again for a while.”
The Royal Ballet will bring Romeo and Juliet to the O2 arena in June 2011. It will be the first time the company has danced in an arena in the UK.
