Spending review: how the arts are affected

The chancellor, George Osborne, has announced the government’s comprehensive spending review, which aims to make savings of £11.5 billion in government spending. The culture, media and sport department has had its resource budget cut by seven per cent, with Arts Council England and national museums cut by five per cent.

New director for NDT

Paul Lightfoot (pictured) has succeeded Jim Vincent as artistic director of Nederlands Dans Theater. Vincent, who became artistic director in 2009, will stay on as co-director for a handover period ending in December, and will then be artistic adviser until the end of the 2011/12 season.
