Classically British returns to The Tabernacle, London W11 on October 16, as part of Black History Month. This year’s programme includes Ballet Belle, a work in progress inspired by the true story of Dido Belle, the daughter of the enslaved woman Maria Belle and a British naval officer.
2014 is the 20th anniversary of the Mark Elie Dance Foundation and Portobello Dance. They’re celebrating with a group of birthday events, including an exhibition of photographs and Classically British, a Black History event that celebrates the rich cultural mix of British professional dancers and choreographers in contemporary and neo-classical ballet.
