New Adventures Choreographer Award

22-year-old James Cousins has won the first New Adventures Choreographer Award (NACA). Nearly 100 aspiring choreographers applied for the award, created to celebrate the 50th birthday of New Adventures’ choreographer Matthew Bourne. Impressed by the standard of applications, the judges have created a runner-up prize, awarded to 19-year-old Tom Jackson Greaves.

Royal Ballet 2011-2012

2011–2012 will be Monica Mason’s final season as director of The Royal Ballet. This is, she explains, “a case of ‘Director’s Choice’ – I’ve included a lot of things that have been particularly special to me, and also one or two that might not appear again for a while.”

The Red Balloon at the Linbury Studio Theatre

So far, family shows have been the biggest dance success at the Linbury Studio Theatre. Following Will Tuckett’s dance/theatre hybrids – The Wind in the Willows, Pinocchio – Aletta Collins has created a show without words, mixing dance with puppetry. It’s a simple, bouncy tale, most vivid in the interaction between people and puppets.
