This week, “Strictly Come Dancing” returns with the first of its themed weekends, “Broadway Week”. The couples will dance to Broadway classics and will evoke the spirit of the stage in their glitzy costumes and elaborate make-up.

To get in the Broadway mood the celebrity contestants took to the stage in costume, with Russell Grant and Holly Valance as cancan dancers, Jason Donovan reprising his role as Joseph from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Anita Dobson and Lulu getting their skates on in Starlight Express, Nancy Dell’Olio as Mary Poppins along with Rory Bremner as chimney sweep Bert, Chelsee Healey as Glenda from Wicked and Alex Jones and Audley Harrison as a pantomime cow.

web_holly--russell-4This week’s show will feature our celebrities doing the following dances (not in performance order): Alex Jones and James Jordan will dance a Viennese waltz to “Memory” from Cats; Anita Dobson and Robin Windsor will jive to “You Can’t Stop The Beat” from Hairspray; Chelsee Healey and Pasha Kovalev will cha cha cha to “Beggin” from Jersey Boys; Holly Valance and Artem Chigvintsev will perform a tango to “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago; Lulu and Brendan Cole will rumba to “All I Ask Of You” from Phantom of the Opera; Nancy Dell’Olio and Anton Du Beke will tango to “Be Italian” from Nine; Audley Harrison and Natalie Lowe will samba to “Too Darn Hot” from Kiss Me Kate.

Performing a Viennese waltz, Dan Lobb and Katya Virshilas will dance to “Somebody To Love” from We Will Rock You; Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani will jive to “Grease Lightning” from Grease; leaderboard champs Jason Donovan and Kristina Rihanoff will perform a tango to “I Will Survive” from Priscilla Queen of the Desert; Robbie Savage and Ola Jordan will tango to “Money, Money, Money” from Mamma Mia!; Rory Bremner and Erin Boag will dance a quickstep to “Top Hat, White Tie and Tails” from Top Hat and Russell Grant and Flavia Cacace will dance a foxtrot to “Rain On My Parade” from Funny Girl.

“Strictly” is on tomorrow, Saturday, October 15 at 6.25pm on BBC1, with the results show on Sunday at 7.25pm when Susan Boyle makes a special appearance and stars of the new film version of Footloose perform exclusively for SCD.

Don’t forget to catch up with the night’s dancing on Marianka Swain’s brilliant blog, “Strictly speaking”.
