Choreographer Alexei Ratmansky has extended his contract with American Ballet Theatre until 2023. Ratmansky became ABT’s artist in residence in 2009, on a five-year contract. His new contract extends his role for another ten years.
“It has been our honour to have Alexei as part of ABT,” said Kevin McKenzie, the company’s artistic director. “He has had a profound and positive influence on the artistry of the dancers. His work stretches us and makes us want to be better. Alexei has already built a lasting body of work that I find astounding to behold, but I believe in the coming years his creative mind will shape the future of a generation of dancers and define a lasting legacy for ABT.”
“Working with ABT for the past two and a half years has been an absolute joy,” Ratmansky said. “I feel I’ve been given the freedom to explore my work fully and to work with artists and designers I’ve long admired. I look forward to continuing my artistic collaboration with Kevin and the great dancers of ABT.”
