June 17


OPEN AUDITIONS Disney Theatrical Group will hold open auditions, for male dancers for Newsies, at Pineapple Dance Studios, Langley Street, London WC2H, with registration at either 9.15am or 1.15pm. For further information on casting, contact Jill Green Casting.

URBAN DANCE The music of Monteverdi meets urban dance in Early Opera Company’s collaboration with Avant Garde Dance, featuring new contemporary choreography inspired by the 16th-century composer. Performances will take place at 6.30pm and 8.30pm, at the Village Underground, London. For more information or to book, click here.

STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL The Duchess of Cornwall, president of the National Osteoporosis Society, will attend a special gala performance of Strictly Confidential, at the New Theatre in Oxford, which will raise funds for the charity.

June 21

LATIN AND BALLROOM Izabela’s Summer Dance Party in aid of Shooting Star Chase Children’s Hospice will take place at KWC, 25 Old London Road, Kingston, with ballroom and Latin music, dance cabaret and charity raffle. LINDY HOP London Swing Dance Society will be at London Wonderground, Southbank, in the atmospheric Spiegeltent. There will be lindy hop classes for beginner and intermediate dancers, and live music to the South London Jazz Orchestra. Click here for more information.

Nicola Rayner was editor of Dance Today from 2010 to 2015. She has written for a number of publications including The Guardian, The Independent and Time Out Buenos Aires, where she cut her teeth as a dance journalist working on the tango section. Today she continues to dance everything from ballroom to breakdance, with varying degrees of success. Her debut novel, The Girl Before You, was published last year in paperback, ebook and audiobook.
