Puttin’ on the Ritz with Robin and Kristina

robin-kristinaStrictly Come Dancing professionals Robin Windsor and Kristina Rihanoff’s new show conjures up the golden age of Hollywood musicals. Kristina and Robin will appear with a troupe of singers and dancers, with guest appearances from singer Pixie Lott and her Strictly professional partner Trent Whiddon for performances at the New Wimbledon Theatre and the Theatre Royal, Newcastle.

Puttin’ on the Ritz showcases the music of songwriters George Gershwin,Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and more, with songs such as “Cheek to Cheek”, “Night and Day” – both famous numbers from Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films – “Alexander’s Ragtime Band”, “I Got Rhythm” and the title number, “Puttin’ on the Ritz”.

Kristina said: “Robin and I are very excited to do a new project. The audience can expect a Fred and Ginger type of dancing. We love ballroom and we want to bring a bit of Hollywood glamour into the show with our dances.”

Robin and Kristina headlined the recent West End run of ballroom show Burn The Floor, and dance together in professional numbers on Strictly.

“We were paired by the producers on Strictly Come Dancing five years ago,” Kristina said of her partnership with Robin. “We love dancing with each other and we love creating new and exciting numbers for our audience.”

Puttin’ on the Ritz will be at the New Wimbledon Theatre from May 27 to 30 and at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle from June 2 to 6]. 

 

Zoë was born in Edinburgh, and saw her first dance performances at the Festival there. She is the dance critic of The Independent, and has also written for The Independent on Sunday, The Scotsman and Dancing Times. In 2002, she received her doctorate from the University of York for a thesis on “Nationhood and epic romance: Ariosto, Sidney, Spenser”. She is the author of The Royal Ballet: 75 Years and The Ballet Lover’s Companion.
