Pina Bausch Fellowship

The Pina Bausch Fellowship for Dance and Choreography opens for applications for the sixth time this year. The fellowship aims at supporting dancers and choreographers in developing their own artistic expression by enabling them to work with an international cooperation partner of their choice. The Pina Bausch Fellowship is characterised by its open approach: it is not a project fund, nor is it aimed at the development of new pieces. There is also no age restriction.

In 2021, the duration of the virtual fellowship depends on the individually created format. Unlike in previous years, in 2021, five fellowships will be funded with €5,000 each. Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, travel and face-to-face exchanges are limited. Therefore, the 2021 Fellowship will support digital cooperation formats. The grant holders will be selected by an international jury, consisting of Madhusree Dutta, Nora Chipaumire, and Ruth Mackenzie. Applicants can apply online on until March 15, 2021.

Nicola Rayner was editor of Dance Today from 2010 to 2015. She has written for a number of publications including The Guardian, The Independent and Time Out Buenos Aires, where she cut her teeth as a dance journalist working on the tango section. Today she continues to dance everything from ballroom to breakdance, with varying degrees of success. Her debut novel, The Girl Before You, was published last year in paperback, ebook and audiobook.
