The 2012–13 dance season is now fully under way, and in this month’s issue of Dancing Times we review the opening performances of Northern Ballet in Leeds, Birmingham Royal Ballet in Birmingham, and Richard Alston Dance Company and The Royal Ballet in London, as well as The Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen and The Australian Ballet in Melbourne.
Later this month, The Royal Ballet marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Sir Kenneth MacMillan with a well-balanced Triple Bill of ballets, and there is a celebration of his work on page 43 written by Laura Dodge and illustrated with marvellous photographs by MacMillan’s great friend, Anthony Crickmay. On page 14, Daniel Pratt offers audition advice to graduating dancers, and on page 27 Josephine Jewkes reports on a conference with a controversial subject matter, “Ballet: Why and How?”, which was held in Stockholm in September. Finally, a reminder that we are holding a sale of our stock of DVDs, CDs and books at our office on November 5 from 10am to 4.30pm. Why not come and meet us all here whilst making some purchases?
