Three choreographers have been commissioned in a triple bill that fuses the South Indian classical dance Bharata Natyam with contemporary techniques.

Luca Silvestrini, known for his work with Protein Dance, uses observational movements to reflect cultural hang-ups. Stephanie Schober – herself a Trinity Laban graduate – looks at the performers’ desire to communicate. Stella Uppal-Subbiah, Sankalpam’s joint artistic director, has collaborated with theatre director Phillip Zarrilli to explore the process of abhinaya (internal acting).
