Kader Belarbi, an étoile of the Paris Opéra Ballet, has been appointed director of dance at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. He will take up his post on February 1, 2011.
Born in 1962, Belarbi trained at the Paris Opéra school before joining the company, where his repertory included the 19th-century classics and work with international choreographers. He was named étoile, the highest rank at the Paris Opéra, in 1989. He recently danced José Limon’s The Moor’s Pavane at the Ballet du Capitole. He is also a choreographer.
As director, he will prepare the programme for the 2012–13 season, in collaboration with the theatre’s artistic director, Frédéric Chambert. He succeeds Nanette Glushak as director of dance.
