December issue

Posted on November 24, 2010

In this month’s magazine…

In the December issue of Dancing Times, Stephanie Jordan analyses a rare Ashton solo, recently revived for David Hallberg. Jordan was able to examine this solo – performed only once in the UK, more than 30 years ago – because film of Hallberg had been posted on YouTube. Here is the film.

Also in the magazine this month, Robin Francis, head of archive and library at the National Portrait Gallery, introduces the gallery’s Ballet in Focus display (Room 31, December 14, 2010 – July 24, 2011) with an article on the fashionable photographer Bassano, and some stunning images. Here is another Bassano image, of the Danish ballerina Adeline Genée, taken in 1916.
