The festival’s dance strand opens with Israel’s Batsheva Dance Company in Sandeh21, choreographed by Ohad Naharin.

Australia’s Shaun Parker and Company dance Am I (pictured), which explores identity. Fourteen dancers and musicians, including guest artist Shantala Shivalingappa, perform Parker’s choreography and Nick Wales’ score, which draws on world music.

Blackout, by Australian-Portuguese group Stone/Castro, starts with “darkness from another world” invading a cheap wedding on a boat, where the guests try to escape into their imaginations.
