Cloud Dance Festival

anico smallCloud Dance Festival, a showcase for new contemporary ballet and dance, returns this year with Lacuna, a programme at London’s Bernie Grant Arts Centre from July 5 to 7.

 

The festival aims to promote new and emerging artists, all of whom are unfunded. This year’s line-up includes AniCo. (pictured), Ella Mesma, who danced in Russell Maliphant’s The Rodin Project, a new duet by Raimond Chai, Paolo Mangiola (a dancer with Wayne McGregor | Random Dance), BalletBoyz dancer Adam Kirkham, former Boston Ballet dancer Merritt Moore, Lithuanian choreographer Ieva Kuniskis, AniCol, What’s On Stage-nominated choreographer John Ross and more. Past Cloud Dance Festival participants have included Ballet Black, Mavin Khoo, Tommy Franzén, Jonathan Goddard and Gemma Nixon.

Zoë was born in Edinburgh, and saw her first dance performances at the Festival there. She is the dance critic of The Independent, and has also written for The Independent on Sunday, The Scotsman and Dancing Times. In 2002, she received her doctorate from the University of York for a thesis on “Nationhood and epic romance: Ariosto, Sidney, Spenser”. She is the author of The Royal Ballet: 75 Years and The Ballet Lover’s Companion.
