square-monica-and-domenDance Today‘s January cover story on Domen Krapez and Monica Nigro (pictured) heralded their last interview – bringing to a close an outstanding ballroom partnership of more than 12 years.

The couple announced their split to pursue the next stage of their professional careers with new dance partners – Domen with girlfriend Natascha Karabey and Monica with fellow Italian ballroom dancer Valerio Colantoni.

Colantoni’s former partner, Russian Yulia Spesivtseva, has not announced a new partnership.

The announcement was made to friends and dance colleagues on social media just after Christmas and was followed by a further announcement by Natascha’s brother and former dance partner, Sascha, who announced his decision to retire from the competitive circuit in order to support the running of their parents’ dance school in Germany.

Last year was filled with competitive highlights and increasing success for Krapez and Nigro including a fourth at the British Open, third in the European and second in the World championships.
They expressed “huge thanks and sincere gratitude to all the people who were part of our dancing life and career”.

Dance Today wishes all the parties the best in future competitions and looks forward to seeing the new partnerships take to the floor.
