CBEs for Thomas Edur and Agnes Oaks

agnes oaks cbe  thomas edur cbeThomas Edur and Agnes Oaks have been awarded CBEs.

Both born and trained in Estonia, they were English National Ballet’s much-loved star couple for two decades, prized for the elegance and classicism of their dancing. Oaks retired from the stage in 2009. Edur is now director of the Estonian Ballet. They have a daughter, Elizabeth, born on January 1, 2010.

They received their CBEs from Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace on October 20. Congratulations to them both.

Zoë was born in Edinburgh, and saw her first dance performances at the Festival there. She is the dance critic of The Independent, and has also written for The Independent on Sunday, The Scotsman and Dancing Times. In 2002, she received her doctorate from the University of York for a thesis on “Nationhood and epic romance: Ariosto, Sidney, Spenser”. She is the author of The Royal Ballet: 75 Years and The Ballet Lover’s Companion.
