The Independent Dance Manager’s Network (IDMN)

The Independent Dance Manager’s Network (IDMN)is open for applications for 2010–11. This network and forum has led a number of sector debates (including the last three British Dance Editions) and has helped produce the Independent Dance Managers’ Review and Audit of services.

The Cultural Leadership Programme

The Cultural Leadership Programme has unveiled its first list of “Women to Watch”, highlighting the work of 50 female leaders, directors, producers and curators from across the UK. The list includes several dance figures. Claire Cunningham, a choreographer and performer who uses crutches on stage and in everyday life, is co-director of Waterbaby Dance Ltd.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Culture Minister Margaret Hodge

Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Culture Minister Margaret Hodge have announced the Creative Bursaries Scheme, a two-year grants programme, providing at least 40 internships with established arts companies for graduates from deprived backgrounds.

The 24th International Competition for Choreographers

The 24th International Competition for Choreographers will be held at the Staatsoper Hannover on April 3–4. The jury, directed by Ed Wubbe, has chosen 15 finalists, selected from over 180 applicants from 42 countries – a new record.

Royal Danish Ballet Plans

The Royal Danish Ballet has announced its season for 2010-11. It will include a new production of Bournonville’s A Folk Tale, directed by Nikolai Hübbe and Sorella Englund, with designs by Mia Stensgaard.

Camilla Dallerup supports breast cancer charity

Camilla Dallerup, of the BBC’s “Strictly Come Dancing”, is urging dance clubs across the UK to join her in Breast Cancer Campaign’s £100 Dance Club Challenge. Any group, club or class can join the challenge by holding a fundraising event aiming to raise £100 or more – through sponsored events, special performances or competitions.

Musical Theatre news: the new musical All the Fun of the Fair has opened at the Garrick Theatre, London. Starring David Essex, the show features his pop hits alongside new songs.

A celebration for the life of Wendy Toye will be held at the Noël Coward Theatre in London’s West End on Tuesday, May 25 at 12 noon.
