Candoco Dance Company plans to reposition itself as a centre for excellence for inclusive dance practice from 2011 onwards. The company has been awarded a grant from Arts Council England (Grants for the Arts) for a nine-month period of research, partnership building and business plan development.
This will include consultation with the dance sector. The existing company of disabled and non-disabled dancers will remain at the heart of the Centre for Excellence concept. Candoco will also use the research period to build ways into the profession for young disabled dancers, and to create new partnerships with the education and vocational training sectors to address the issue of access to vocational dance training for young disabled people.
