This year’s Breakin’ Convention, the annual festival of hip hop dance theatre held at London’s Sadler’s Wells, features a mix of lindy hop and hip hop, three sets of twins and an adult-only strand. It takes place over the bank holiday weekend of May 1 to 4.
That ain’t right, by lindy/hip hop duo Jade and Shango (pictured) is set at the time of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. (Watch them in action here.) French duo Les Twins have toured the world with BeyoncĂ© and Missy Elliott. Twin Peak are another pair of identical twins, Jay and Perry of Rain Crew, while the Legendry Twins are a pair of first-generation US b-boys, making their European debut.
Then there’s Sigh, a duet inspired by Japanese kabuki, much-loved UK crew Boy Blue Entertainment and more. WorX, held in the Lilian Baylis Studio, is for audiences over 21. On bank holiday Monday, the festival goes outdoors with Park Jam, a family-friendly party in Spa Fields Park. Visit www.sadlerswells.com for more information.
