ana-ilmi-as-shaily-shergill-leads-companyComing straight from sold-out performances in Mumbai, the new musical Beyond Bollywood brings the colour and energy of Indian dance to London’s West End.

The show tells the story of Shaily Shergill (pictured), who leaves her home in Munich for India, hoping to fulfil her mother’s dying wish. With a cast of 42 and hundreds of sumptuous costumes, Beyond Bollywood has an emphasis on Indian classical folk dance, including kathak, bhangra, bihu, garba and kalbelia styles.

The music is by composing duo Salim-Sulaiman, who have scored many movies and worked on a Bollywood remix of Lady Gaga, with lyrics by Irfan Siddiqui, whose international work includes the Hindi editions of High School Musical 1 and 2. The show was written choreographed and directed by Rajeev Goswami, a leading Bollywood choreographer who has also worked as a pop artist.

Now open at the London Palladium, Beyond Bollywood runs until June 27. Call 0844 811 0058 or visit www.beyondbollywoodmusical.com for tickets.
