La Bayadère from the Maryinsky Theatre

maryinsky bayadere n.razinaOn July 14, the Maryinsky Ballet’s production of La Bayadère will be broadcast live to cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

Performed as part of the annual Stars of the White Nights Festival, the speactacular production stars Viktoria Tereshkina as the temple dancer Nikiya, Anastasia Matvienko as her rival, the princess Gamzatti and Vladimir Shklyarov as Solor, the warrior they both love. This performance will be conducted by Valery Gergiev.

La Bayadère will be screened at Odeon, Vue, Showcase, Empire and independent cinemas on July 14. For full cinema listings, see

Zoë was born in Edinburgh, and saw her first dance performances at the Festival there. She is the dance critic of The Independent, and has also written for The Independent on Sunday, The Scotsman and Dancing Times. In 2002, she received her doctorate from the University of York for a thesis on “Nationhood and epic romance: Ariosto, Sidney, Spenser”. She is the author of The Royal Ballet: 75 Years and The Ballet Lover’s Companion.
