The British Association of Teachers of Dancing was founded in 1982 and became the first dancing association to encourage the professionals of the day to organise themselves into a society to improve and develop the art of dancing. Its goal and mission was to provide dance excellence and education to all members and teachers, which continues to this day.

A professional membership organisation, BATD is comprised of committees with a dedication to provide support and assistance to its members.

The BATD is committed to the advancement of the art of dance and has an extensive list of syllabi available to members, in all genres, with examinations from amateur to professional.

The BATD provides members with scholarships, informative regional meetings, examinations, workshops, championships, children’s days of dance, an annual conference and generous examination discounts.

Those looking to further their dance education and qualifications will receive guidance, support and all of the necessary tools for their students and school.

The BATD is a Council for Dance Education and Training-validated awarding organization.
