The BalletBoyz are back, touring the TALENT 2013, a Double Bill of new works by the award-winning choreographers Liam Scarlett and Russell Maliphant.
The all-male company, founded by Michael Nunn and William Trevitt in 2000, has five new members this year. The 2013 line-up is Taylor Benjamin, Andrea Carrucciu, Flavien Esmieu, Adam Kirkham, Alexander Loxton, Jordan Olpherts, Edward Pearce, Leon Poulton, Matthew Rees and Matthew Sandiford.
The company also has a new home in Kingston Upon Thames. “We were walking down the street, saw this fantastic old building, realised it was empty and looked through the window,” says Trevitt. “We realised that with a lick of paint and a bit of renovation – OK, a lot of renovation! – it would make a fantastic permanent home for BalletBoyz. We’re really excited and very much looking forward to moving into our own space.”
Since 2005, the company has been based at Sadler’s Wells, where the company will retain its associate artist status. For the first time in the company’s 12-year history, Nunn points out, “we will have a permanent studio facility available to us 365 days a year.” The new home will consist of two studios, offices for company management and editing facilities.
