Ballet under the stars

Posted on June 29, 2016

Covent Garden Dance Company will present an evening of ballet in the 17th-century walled garden of Hatch House, near Tisbury, Wiltshire, from July 15 to 17. Titled Ballet Under the Stars, the performances are conceived and directed by Matt Brady, founder of Covent Garden Dance Company, and will include guest appearances by former Royal Ballet principal Mara Galeazzi, who will be performing in her first created work, Remembrance, danced to “Dido’s Lament” from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, made especially for the occasion.

Also participating are dancers from the Royal Danish Ballet, Ballet Béjart and English National Ballet, including Ksenia Ovsyanick, Jia Zhang, Silvia Selvini and Jon Axel Fransson. The programme features extracts from Coppélia and Manon, as well as a one-act ballet, Les Copines, choreographed by Tim Podesta and inspired by a photograph by Norman Parkinson.

For the performances, audiences are able to enjoy a three-course dinner with wines under a canopy that covers the garden with no internal supports, allowing them an uninterrupted view of the dancers.
