English National Ballet announce 2015’s Emerging Dancers

English National Ballet has announced the finalists for its Emerging Dancer competition. Held on March 23 at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, the competition is deisgned to recognise and nurture talent within the company.

A tribute to Derek Rencher

Derek Rencher, the dancer and character artist who dedicated his 45-year career entirely to The Royal Ballet, died at the age of 82 on December 20, 2014. Here, David Drew, a colleague for many years at The Royal Ballet, pays tribute to the man:

Tony Award-nominated musical comes to Guildford

The third-year musical theatre students of Performance Preparation Academy (PPA) will be appearing in the Tony Award-nominated musical, Bring It On: The Musical, at The Electric Theatre, Guildford, from March 5 to 7.

La Bayadère in Chester

The Hammond School in Chester will be dancing Jane Elliott’s production of the full-length ballet La Bayadère at its theatre in Mannings Lane, Chester, from March 26 to 27. The production will include many of the work’s famous set-pieces, including the celebrated “Kingdom of the Shades” scene.

The Royal Ballet in America

The Royal Ballet has announced details of its US tour, visiting Washington, Chicago and New York this summer. The repertory will include Carlos Acosta’s production of Don Quixote and works by Frederick Ashton, Kenneth MacMillan, Wayne McGregor, Liam Scarlett and Christopher Wheeldon.

Up High

Newly formed PANA Dance Company, created by dance teachers Nina Daines and Patrick Hood, will launch its programme for 2015 with Up High, an advanced aerials and lifts course for swing and jive dancers.
