Bal Moderne at the Edinburgh International Festival

This weekend, Bal Moderne recreate wartime dancehalls in an event mixing live music, archive film footage and a chance to dance.

Freedom To Dance – The 4th Singapore Open Dance Championship will be held on November 30, 2014 at Suntac Singapore international Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Sylvie Guillem to retire in 2015

Sylvie Guillem has announced that she will retire at the end of 2015. The French ballerina made the announcement through the Japan Performing Arts Foundation, adding that her farewell performance is scheduled to take place in Japan.

Dazzle, Dance and Draw

The Cartoon Museum in Holborn, London, will host a dance event marking the World War I centenary and its Never Again! exhibition on August 29.

National Dance Company Wales seeks new director

National Dance Company Wales (NDCWales) has launched its search for a new artistic director, after the departure of Ann Sholem in November last year. As well as a new artistic director, the company is seeking a new chief executive, and plans to refresh its board of trustees.

Paris will have a busy autumn of dance, from William Forsythe at the Festival d’Automne to a new production of the musical An American in Paris with choreography by Christopher Wheeldon.

Rhythm Junction London

Reviving the glamour of the swing era, Rhythm Junction London is a new festival of live vintage music and dance, taking place in Hackney on September 13. London’s hep cats are invited to come down for a jam-packed day of swinging rhythms, revelry and jazz spirit.

Applications open for Rural Retreat

Applications are now open for the seventh Rural Retreat for established and aspiring leaders in dance. The next retreat, held in Ipswich from January 2 to 4, will be aimed at future leaders from different dance forms, parts of the world and backgrounds.

Russian Avant-Garde Theatre at the V&A

This autumn, more than 150 radical theatre designs will go on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Theatre and Performance galleries. Russian Avant-Garde Theatre: War, Revolution and Design, 1913–1933 features designs by artists including Kazimir Malevich, Alexander Rodchenko, Vladimir Tatlin, Alexandra Exter, El Lissitsky, Liubov Popova and Varvara Stepanova.          

Injured Robin out of Strictly
