Choreographer Hofesh Shechter (pictured) is to be the guest director of Brighton Festival 2014. Since 2009, the festival has invited artists to guest direct each year’s programme. Past directors have included artist Anish Kapoor, musician Brian Eno, Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, actress Vanessa Redgrave and author Michael Rosen.
Earthfall Dance Company’s new production Chelsea Hotel is set in the bohemian New York hotel, which has welcomed artists from Dylan Thomas and Tennessee Williams to Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe and Sid Vicious.
Cork City Ballet will celebrate its 21st birthday with a Ballet Spectacular Gala programme, presented at Cork Opera House from November 21 to 23.
