Dance at the City of London Festival 2012

A number of dance performances are included in the 2012 City of London Festival, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary. The programme of over 150 events in more than 55 London venues, planned by festival director Ian Ritchie, will take place from June 24 to July 27.  

Trouble and Strife

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Trouble And Strife, a programme of new dance created by four Plymouth-based female choreographers, will be performed at the Barbican Theatre Plymouth on March 7–8.

New York City Ballet returns to Germany

New York City Ballet will dance in Germany for the first time in 30 years next month when it appears at Ludwigshafen’s Theater im Pfalzbau on March 12 and 13.

Lendorf in London

Royal Danish Ballet star Alban Lendorf will appear with the Peter Schaufuss Ballet in A Tchaikovsky Trilogy at the London Coliseum this summer.  The Trilogy is Schaufuss’ own staging of Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker to reflect Tchaikovsky’s own life and sexuality.

“Strictly” Jubilee

“Strictly Come Dancing” will be part of the line-up for Hyde Park’s Jubilee Family Festival, marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Dancers from the BBC One television show will give main stage performances on each day of the event, which runs from 10.30am until 7pm on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3, 2012.

Circusfest at the Roundhouse

Circusfest 2012 is a five-week celebration of contemporary circus from around the world, held at London’s Roundhouse. The season features everything from vintage circus carnival and street dance acrobatics to an intimate tale of love, loss and Las Vegas.

Breakin’ Convention 2012

The line-up for this year’s Breakin’ Convention has been announced. Hip hop performers come from around the world to the international festival of hip hop dance theatre, held each May Bank Holiday weekend at Sadler’s Wells in London.

ReMade music and dance weekend

ReMade is a music and dance weekend that allows dancers to explore new ways of working, network with other young artists, and gives them the opportunity to develop choreographic skills. Mark Bowden, Rambert Dance Company’s music fellow, will lead the project, working alongside an experienced Rambert animateur.

Dancing on Ice on tour

Based on the ITV1 show, this year’s “Dancing on Ice” tour launched at the Newcastle Metro Arena on April 13, with performances across the country until May.
