New Adventures Choreographer Award

22-year-old James Cousins has won the first New Adventures Choreographer Award (NACA). Nearly 100 aspiring choreographers applied for the award, created to celebrate the 50th birthday of New Adventures’ choreographer Matthew Bourne. Impressed by the standard of applications, the judges have created a runner-up prize, awarded to 19-year-old Tom Jackson Greaves.

New director for NDT

Paul Lightfoot (pictured) has succeeded Jim Vincent as artistic director of Nederlands Dans Theater. Vincent, who became artistic director in 2009, will stay on as co-director for a handover period ending in December, and will then be artistic adviser until the end of the 2011/12 season.

Horacio Gomez presents Cinematographique

Tango pianist and composer Horacio Gomez, from Argentina, will be giving an exclusive concert at Rojo y Negro’s Poema in Queensway, London, tonight, September 15, during the milonga (9.45pm – 10.30pm).

Zumba creator comes to London for fundraising

Beto Perez, creator of the internationally popular Zumba programme, will be in London to lead a Zumbathon charity event for 3,500 people at Alexandra Palace on October 16. The event will raise money for breast cancer research and community outreach programmes as part of the Party in Pink™ campaign, created by Zumba Fitness.

Dance Initiative is now taking applications for Signatures Youth Dance Showcase 2012. The event is open to all dance groups in Greater Manchester, with dancers aged from ten to 22.
