On page 29 Gerald Dowler marks the 50th anniversary of Rudolf Nureyev’s defection to the West whilst dancing with the Kirov Ballet in Paris, and on page 39 Trader Faulkner remembers his mother, the British-born dancer Sheila Whytock, who appeared as “Sheilova” in the first London season by Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in 1911. We also look forward to English National Ballet’s eagerly-awaited Roland Petit season at the London Coliseum on page 21, and in Dance Education on page 71 we embark on the first of the reviews of this year’s graduation shows by vocational schools and colleges. Finally, we offer our congratulations to Kevin O’Hare, who has just been appointed director of The Royal Ballet from July 2012.
