Female Choreographers Collective:

addanceThe Female Choreographers Collective (FCC) is a new initiative that aims to promote and support female choreographers in the UK. Founded by Holly Noble, director of AD Dance Company, and Jane Coulston, of Beyond Repair Dance, the FCC will be launched with a women-only performance on October 13.

rojo-squareTamara Rojo (pictured), English National Ballet’s new artistic director, has announced plans for her first season. They include the company premiere of Jirí Kylián’s Petite Mort, an anniversary programme celebrating Rudolf Nureyev and news of Rojo’s artistic team. Rojo said: “I want to transform English National Ballet into England’s most creative and most loved ballet company, embracing and commissioning brave new works while keeping the classics relevant.”

The Dance Teachers’ Benevolent Fund (DTBF) will be presenting a celebration fundraising gala at the Linbury Studio Theatre of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, on Sunday, October 21.

shimmer-jonathan-goddard-ino-riga-photo-chris-nashThe Design Museum Ball, held by London Design Festival 2012, will feature a one-off performance by Richard Alston Dance Company. Alston’s dancers, dressed in glittering, crystal-encrusted costumes created for them by fashion designer Julien Macdonald, will perform a series of specially-created dance moments in spaces around the Design Museum.

This October, Bulgarian sculptor Ivan Minekov and his London-based daughter, Paola, join forces in a new exhibition. Both artists have used dance as a subject.

Charles Hedges, the dance and film critic and former chair of the dance section of The Critics’ Circle, will be remembered at a memorial service to be held at St Joseph’s Hospice, Mare Street, Hackney, London E8 4SA on Sunday, September 23 at 2.30pm.

New directions for Scottish Ballet:

His first full-length work for Scottish Ballet will be supported by a groundbreaking education project, which aims to bring people across Scotland into the new ballet’s creative process. The company has also been granted an exclusive license to dance Matthew Bourne’s Highland Fling, and announced plans to work with a range of choreographers.

Open auditions for the London revival of the stage musical A Chorus Line will commence on Monday, October 1 from 10am to 6pm at the London Palladium (main entrance on Argyll Street), with registration from 9am to 12noon.
