The Forsythe Company at work

forsythe companyThe company of choreographer William Forsythe comes to London’s Sadler’s Wells from June 18 to 20.  During the London season, members of the company will also take part in an insight programme presented by the University of Roehampton’s dance department.

The 13th National Dance Awards - winners

nda logoThe Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards for 2012 were held at The Place on Monday, January 28. Hosted by Gary Avis of The Royal Ballet and KennethTharp of The Place, the awards celebrated a broad spread of dance performances in Britain, from hip hop – with a spectacular double win for ZooNation – to narrative ballet. Tharp and Avis opened with a touch of showbiz, dancing on with a flourish. This year’s awards were dedicated to the memory of critics John Percival, Charles Hedges and Freda Pitt.

Dance at the London Coliseum

Boston Ballet in London

bostonballetserenadegeneschiavoneBoston Ballet will visit the London Coliseum from July 1 to 7, 2013, as part of the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations. There will be two programmes in the London season, including ballets by George Balanchine, Jirí Kylián, William Forsythe and Boston Ballet’s resident choreographer, Jorma Elo. The season will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

New directions for Scottish Ballet

His first full-length work for Scottish Ballet will be supported by a groundbreaking education project, which aims to bring people across Scotland into the new ballet’s creative process. The company has also been granted an exclusive license to dance Matthew Bourne’s Highland Fling, and announced plans to work with a range of choreographers.

She joins the Antwerp-based company at a difficult time. The previous director, Kathryn Bennetts, clashed with the Flemish culture minister, Joke Schauvliege, over plans to amalgamate the Antwerp opera and ballet companies under a single intendant.

New Royal Ballet season

It includes six world premieres, with new works by Alexei Ratmansky, Alastair Marriott, Christopher Wheeldon, Liam Scarlett and two by Wayne McGregor – including his first ever narrative work. There will also be company premieres of works by Wheeldon and Scarlett, and revivals of works by Frederick Ashton, Kenneth MacMillan, George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, John Cranko and Wheeldon, and of 19th-century classics.
