David Wall
David Wall, one of the UK’s greatest male dancers, died on June 18, 2013. Kevin O’Hare, director of The Royal Ballet, and Tamara Rojo, director of English National Ballet, have led tributes to Wall as a dancer, teacher and coach.
Royal Ballet 2013-14 season

Rojo's farewell
Tamara Rojo danced her farewell performance with The Royal Ballet in the current run of Frederick Ashton’s Marguerite and Armand last night, partnered by Sergei Polunin.
Galeazzi and Watkins to leave The Royal Ballet
Dancers Mara Galeazzi (pictured) and Jonathan Watkins will be leaving The Royal Ballet this season.

National Dance Awards
Nominations for the 13th National Dance Awards were announced today, at a reception held at The Place. The awards are for dance performances given between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012, and are chosen by the dance section of the Critics’ Circle.
Liam Scarlett appointed artist in residence at The Royal Ballet
Choreographer Liam Scarlett (pictured) has been appointed the first ever artist in residence at The Royal Ballet. The new position will allow Scarlett, a dancer with the company, to focus solely on his choreographic work. He will take up the new role with immediate effect, making his last appearances as a dancer with the company in the current run of Swan Lake.
Everybody Ballet
Since retiring as a first soloist with The Royal Ballet, Isabel McMeekan has set up Everybody Ballet. The company offers adult ballet classes for beginners, as well as private coaching for students of all ages.
Dance UK mentoring scheme
Applications are now open for a new mentoring scheme for dancers who could be future leaders of the arts. Launched by Dance UK, with the support of Arts Council England and in partnership with Dancers’ Career Development, the scheme will award mentorships to six independent dancers and 14 company dancers. The deadline for all applications is Friday, September 7.
Irek and Alban
Irek Mukhamedov and Alban Lendorf will be dancing in the UK this summer, appearing in the Peter Schaufuss Ballet’s Tchaikovsky Trilogy at the London Coliseum. When Zoë Anderson spoke to them for July’s Dancing Times, they had plenty to say, including this discussion of choreographers.
