National Dance Awards

winnersThe twelfth Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards took place today at The Place, in the Robin Howard Dance Theatre. Members of the dance section of the Critics’ Circle vote for the awards, on performances given in the UK between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2011.

Akram Khan injured

akramkhanlaurentzieglerAkram Khan has had to withdraw from upcoming performances due to an injured Achilles tendon. Khan (pictured) was due to perform in his solo show DESH, currently touring worldwide. He is expected to make a full recovery, and looks forward to returning to DESH and his other works in due course.

Arts Council cuts

Arts Council England (ACE) has announced its funding decisions for the next four years. Following the 29.6 per cent cut to ACE’s own budget for 2011 to 2015, there will be a 14.9 per cent cut in its budget for funded organisations. The plan was to cut strategically, dropping 206 organisations altogether and concentrating funding on others. Alan Davey, chief executive of ACE, said there had been “really hard choices as we had so many good applications – more than we were able to fund.”
