Tomorrow's Men:

Friday, 29 June 2012

tomorrows-men-photo-by-irven-lewisAll-male company Tomorrow’s Men will give a free performance at London’s Canary Wharf tomorrow, Saturday June 30.

Choreographer Jeanefer Jean-Charles founded Tomorrow’s Men to encourage boys and young men to take part in dance. Her aim is to energise and enthuse boys and young men in their communities, building their confidence through dance. She brings together professional male dancers and role models, such as singer-songwriter Jazzy B, to encourage boys to take part.

The company’s current project, Aim High, involves 100 boys and young men drawn from across East London, and recruited through a range of social welfare organisations and schools. Produced by East London Dance, it is aimed at three key age groups: Lads and Dads, for children aged five to 11, Just Us (ages 11–17) and Man2Man (aged 17 and over).

Jean-Charles specialises in mass choreography. In 2006, she choreographed the Big Dance in Trafalgar Square, which broke the Guinness World Record for the highest number of different dances performed at once. She is a choreographic consultant for Big Dance North West, and is currently working as mass movement coordinator on all four of the London 2012 ceremonies for this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Tomorrow’s Men will perform at Jubilee Plaza, Canary Wharf, London on Saturday, June 30. There will be free performances at 1pm and 3pm. See www.tomorrowsmen.co.uk for more information.
