Birmingham Hippodrome is hosting a live broadcast of an open rehearsal by Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo on Friday, February 1. From 4.15pm onwards the theatre will broadcast a live video feed from one of the boxes in the auditorium as “The Trocks” – as they are affectionately known – take to the stage before an invited audience. Viewers are also invited to “join them from the comfort of your office chair, sofa or even on the bus!”
London cinema BFI Southbank celebrates the director Vincente Minnelli in April and May, with screenings of films including Meet Me in St Louis, An American in Paris, The Band Wagon, Gigi and Ziegfeld Follies.
“Join the Dance” is a new event in support of the BBC’s Children in Need 2010 and of A Right Blether, a consultation by Tam Baillie, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People.
A record attempt to create the largest virtual dance has been launched, in support of a charity campaign to raise awareness of mentoring and befriending. Called Supporting Life’s Journeys, the campaign is part of the European Year 2010 for Combating Social Exclusion and Poverty.
