Christmas is here! Along with mince pies, frantic shopping and The Nutcracker on stage, there’s also plenty of festive television. Dancing Times has been circling the dance goodies in our Christmas listings magazine, with everything from the sequins of Strictly Come Dancing – both the series finale and the Christmas special (pictured) – to filmed stage productions from Matthew Bourne to The Royal Ballet, plus a bumper crop of movie musicals.

lopatkina-korsuntsev-frederikadavisRussian culture minister Vladimir Medinsky has announced that Nikolai Tsiskaridze is to be appointed rector of the Vaganova Academy, St Petersburg’s leading ballet school. Maryinsky ballerina Uliana Lopatkina will succeed Altynai Asylmuratova as the school’s artistic director, combining the new role with her stage career. The current rector, Vera Dorofeeva, will be offered a new job. The minister indicated that Tsiskaridze will decide Asylmuratova’s future at the Academy.

Russian newspaper Izvestia reports that Nikolai Tsiskaridze, who recently left the Bolshoi Theatre after several reprimands and a court case, will become Rector of the Vaganova Academy, St Petersburg’s leading ballet school. The current rector, Vera Dorofeyeva, will be offered a new position.
