The Royal Ballet announces 2014-15 season

The Royal Ballet has announced the repertoire for its 2014–15 season, from new classic revivals of Ashton and MacMillan to new works by Hofesh Shechter, Liam Scarlett and Wayne McGregor.

hofesh-shechterChoreographer Hofesh Shechter (pictured) is to be the guest director of Brighton Festival 2014. Since 2009, the festival has invited artists to guest direct each year’s programme. Past directors have included artist Anish Kapoor, musician Brian Eno, Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, actress Vanessa Redgrave and author Michael Rosen.

Summer at Sadler's Wells

sadlers-squareUntil July 3, Sadler's Wells hosts Sadler's Sampled, a two-week festival showcasing the range of dance the theatre offers, with cheap ticket prices and activities before and after each production. At the heart of the season, the original Sampled nights, on June 28 and 29, offer everything from hip hop star Storyboard P to a performance by the National Youth Dance Company choreographed by Jasmin Vardimon and current world tango champions Facundo de la Cruz and Paola Sanz.

2013 at Sadler's Wells

pina_bauschtwocigarettesinthedarkjochenviehoffSadler’s Wells has announced highlights of next year’s programme. 2013 will be the 15th anniversary of the London venue’s current building, and will be marked by several special events. All 14 of the theatre’s associate artists will contribute to this year’s programme, which will also feature the return of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, a celebration of The Rite of Spring and a visit from the National Ballet of Canada.

U.Dance 2012

The programme has been announced for national youth dance festival U.Dance 2012, which will take place on July 13–15 and feature a new Hofesh Shechter work.

None of the usual theatrical warnings about switching off your mobiles tonight. Camera phones were sparking all over the place at the Roundhouse in north London, where Hofesh Shechter was storming though a double bill that was more rock gig than dancehouse offering.
