A novel venue: discover dance at your local library:

Monday, 02 July 2012

Contemporary dance company Second Hand Dance is breathing new life into libraries this month as part of the Big Dance festival.

Paper Solo, a collaboration between choreographer Rosie Heafford and visual artist Josie Davies, has been touring libraries across London and the south east and in July the final three performances will take place in three Surrey libraries.

Choreographer Rosie Heafford says: “I’ve always loved libraries and found them inviting places to spend many quiet moments researching or reading for pleasure. I’m delighted to have this opportunity to work with so many libraries and invite new audiences to get involved with dance.”

Paper Solo is a short but delicate solo dance that weaves its way around an intricately cut paper structure, with the added bonus of free workshops to accompany the event (no booking required).

An inviting family-friendly environment will encourage young and old to make paper sculptures and create their own dances. It’s suitable for families and people of all ages and abilities, so explore your creative potential in libraries this Big Dance season.

Paper Solo is funded by Big Dance, Surrey County Council (including Surrey Libraries and Surrey Arts), South East Dance and Farnham Maltings with support from the University of Surrey.
