Ratmansky to create Shostakovich trilogy:

Monday, 25 June 2012

ratmansky1ffAlexei Ratmansky (pictured) will choreograph a new three-part work for American Ballet Theatre, where he is artist in residence.

The first work, danced to Shostakovich’s ninth symphony, will have its world premiere on October 18 at New York’s City Center. It will have sets by George Tsypin and costumes by Keso Dekker.

The second and third works, to Shostakovich’s first symphony and his Chamber Symphony for Strings, will have their world premieres in spring 2013, at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. The complete trio will be presented as a full evening of one-act ballets during the spring season.
