Tony Butcher photographs:

Tuesday, 24 April 2012

tony butcherAn exhibition of photographs by Tony Butcher will be held at the Royal Academy of Dance from May 3 to 29.

The photographs are of two black male dancers. Shevelle Dynot is an artist of English National Ballet who has made guest appearances with Ballet Black. Darren Panton, the first black male dancer to graduate from The Royal Ballet School, has danced in a range of styles, including performances with Diana Ross and Elton John.

After meeting Darren Panton, Tony Butcher changed his focus as a photographer, concentrating on male dancers. A fellow of The Royal Photographic Society, Butcher has exhibited in San Francisco, New York, Paris, Amsterdam, Birmingham and London. His photographs stress the grace, power and athleticism of the dancers. The exhibition, part sponsored by Hahnemuhle fine art printing papers, is open from 11am to 8pm between Monday and Friday, and from 11am to 5pm at the weekend. Entry is free.
